Vacuum Relief Valves (VRV)

Vacuum Relief Valves are integral components in a variety of tank systems, ensuring both functionality and safety in different operational conditions. These devices allow a tank to “breathe in,” or vent, during critical operations such as emptying. The process is vital in maintaining internal pressure at safe levels, preventing potential damage to the tank structure and mitigating the risk of operational failure. Moreover, Vacuum Relief Valves also come into action when thermal effects necessitate pressure adjustment within the tank. Through this dual functionality, these valves contribute significantly to the longevity and reliability of tank systems, providing a safeguard against unwanted pressure changes that could otherwise compromise both the system’s integrity and the safety of those operating it

Types of Vacuum Relief Valves we Supply

  • Weight Loaded VRV:  These vents utilise a weight to keep the valve closed. When the system vacuum surpasses the weight’s opposing force, the valve opens. While less common than spring-operated vents, weight-operated vents are valuable in low-vacuum applications where precision is critical.
  • Spring-Operated VRV: Spring-operated valves rely on a spring mechanism to keep the valve closed under normal operating conditions. When the system vacuum exceeds the force exerted by the spring, the valve opens to discharge the excess vacuum. These vents are notable for their simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for a wide range of vacuum settings.
  • Pilot Operated VRV:  These vents use a secondary pressure (pilot) valve to control the operation of the main relief valve. When the vacuum in the system exceeds the set limit, the pilot valve opens, allowing the main valve to relieve the vacuum. This type of vent is known for its accuracy and reliability, making it suitable for high-vacuum applications.

Servicing Breather Valves with our Vent-Less Test Bench
API 2000

Our Pressure Vacuum Relief Valves are not just reliable and efficient, but they also meet the rigorous safety and performance requirements of international standards like API 2000 and ISO 28300.

API 2000 & ISO28300 set the globally recognised standards for the design, installation, and maintenance of venting devices in petroleum industry tanks.

One of the defining features of our Pressure Relief Valves is their leak-tightness. The importance of a leak-tight valve cannot be overstated in industries where even the smallest leak can lead to significant product loss, potential harm to personnel, and environmental pollution. All our valves are supplied with individual leakage and calibration certificates, as per ISO 28300 & API 2000 standards. We believe it’s important to note that while some manufacturers only supply calibration certificates, neglecting leakage tests, we ensure compliance with the aforementioned standards. Each valve we supply is tested meticulously, a process typically requiring at least an hour at the factory. This critical quality assurance step is included in our base price, reflecting our commitment to safety and quality.
